Good Enough to Eat: Homemade Pumpkin Facial Mask

Halloween is just around the corner, so if you’re wondering what to do with all of the pumpkins you have laying around post October 31, I have an answer: whip up some homemade beauty recipes.

Not sure where to start? That’s where Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home (and my fellow University of Oregon alumn) comes in. She shared two amazing homemade pumpkin beauty recipes with me. “Pumpkin is a great beauty ingredient because it is a natural antioxidant and a good skin cleanser,” says Cox. Here’s how to make her signature facial mask, which she recommends using at night to help give “your skin a chance to rest and recover.”

What you need:

1/2 cup Pumpkin

“You can use fresh or canned pumpkin. If you use fresh, just steam it first in the microwave until soft and let cool,” says Cox.

2 Tbs Greek Yogurt

1 tbsp Pure Honey

How to do it:

Mix the ingredients together until smooth. Spread the mixture on your face after cleansing, avoid your mouth and eye area, let it sit for 15 -20 minutes then rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow up with a favorite moisturizer, says Cox.
