Braids are not going away. Thank god. I’d be sunk without them. Last week I wrote about the “Rainbow Warrior Princess” Braid I saw at the Mara Hoffman show during New York Fashion Week, and this week I’m also forgoing a look created on my head to bring you another straight-off-the-runway style. There were just too many great braids not to share them all. Wait until you see the look from Kenneth Cole!
This week though, I’m crushing on the very sporty braided hairstyle seen at VPL. Hairstylist Bob Recine for Beauty.com created the look and while he braided dry hair, I think this would be an ideal braid to do on wet hair when you simply don’t have time to blow-dry it, but need to look pulled together. Here’s how to copy it:
Step 1: Start with wet hair (my suggestion, not Recine’s) or blow-dry hair while applying “Phyto Professional Intense Volume Mousse, $24 at the roots to create texture,” says Recine.
Step 2: Flat iron your hair to create a sleek finish.
Step 3: Secure hair into a mid-height ponytail.
Step 4: Apply gel, try Phyto Professional Wet Gel, $24 for a wet-looking finish.
Step 5: Fishtail braid your ponytail. Watch this if you’re not sure how to fishtail braid.
Step 6: Apply Phyto 7 Hydrating Day Cream, $28 to tame flyaways.
Step 7: Finish with hairspray.
