In seasons past, fishtail braids were a go-to way to add a boho vibe to your style. But, at the Christian Siriano show at New York Fashion Week, the fishtail braids were done in a more glamorous way. “The braids at the back evoke refinement and glamour, reminiscent of a Russian girl dressed for an evening at the opera,” says Aveda Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders who styled the look. I’m a huge fan of braids, so I’ll definitely follow these steps courtesy of Beenders to copy the look. Will you?
Step 1: Apply styling spray to damp hair and blow-dry your hair straight. Try Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep, $24.
Step 2: Create a center part.
Step 3: Create two fishtails braids — one on each side of your head. Secure the ends of the braids with tiny clear elastics. Not sure how to fishtail braid? Watch our step-by-step fishtail braid tutorial.
Step 4: Tame any flyaway hairs with hairspray. Try Aveda Air Control Hair Spray, $24.
Step 5: Gently massage the braids to add fullness to them.
Step 6: Fold the braids over one another across the back of your head — just above the nape of your neck. Tuck the ends of your braids under and secure with bobby pins.
Step 7: Set the look with a bit more hairspray.
