Not only is Zooey Deschanel totally adorable and hilarious, I’ve always been obsessed with her makeup. Like, really obsessed. It works with her retro get ups, but is also totally wearable for everyone else, like me. “She’s a risk-taker who follows her instincts,” says makeup artist Jorjee Douglass, who created her makeup look for Sunday night’s Emmy Awards. Of course, I was dying to get the how-to from Douglass — I’m a sucker for a bold pink lip — so I could share it with you. Here’s the scoop on how you can get it yourself.

Step 1: Prime your skin to minimize shine and help makeup last. A good primer will also reduce the appearance of pores, while allowing makeup to go on extra smooth. (She used Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, $52).

Step 2: Create a flawless matte complexion with a combo of tinted moisturizer, (she used Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer, $55) plus concealer only where you need it (she used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer, $32). Next, top skin with a pressed powder to absorb oil and create a lovely matte finish (she used Hourglass Oxygen Mineral Powder, $46).

Step 3: Apply a cheek stain to the apples of your cheeks get that lit-from-within look (she used Hourglass Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush, $45) and top it with a light pink powder blush to really bring out the rosy cheek effect (she used Dior’s Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush in Petal, $44).

Step 4: Shadow your lid. Start with a light shade of shimmer shadow all over your entire lid, then contour your crease with a mix of chocolate brown and black shades. Next, blend the whole lid with a rosy pink shadow. Douglass used Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Palette, $58 to get all these shades. Finally, dust a shimmer powder all over the entire lid for a little drama (she used Beauty is Life Perfect Shine Eyes in Everest, $25).

Step 5: Frame your eyes with a felt-tip liquid liner (she used Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Ebony, $32 and Hourglass Script Precision Liquid Liner, $32). Extend the top in a cat shape, bringing it out past the lid and the lashes. Line under the eyes, from the middle of the eye and straight out –making it a princess version of Cleopatra’s eye.

Step 6: Finish the eye look with false lashes and an inky black mascara (she used Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer, $28).

Step 7: Paint lips in a high-pigment matte lipstick in a baby pink hue (she used Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Ballet, $28).
