If you’re like me, your hair lives mostly in a ponytail. But, that doesn’t mean you want your hair to look the same every. single. day. That’s why when I see a new take on a ponytail, I’m all for copying it. I spotted my newest ponytail hairstyle crush backstage at the Tracy Reese show at New York Fashion Week. It’s a bedhead-y textured ponytail that has a little crisscross action in the back and side-swept bangs. Here, TRESemme stylist Jeanie Syfu, who created the look for the show, shares how to get it:
Step 1: Start by applying a combination of root-boosting spray and volumizing mousse (she used TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boost Spray, $6.26 and TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse, $5.99) in wet hair and quickly blow dry your hair using your fingers to add texture.
Step 2: Backcomb your roots to add lift around the crown of your head then lightly spray strands with volume-enhancing spray. She used TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray, $5.99.
Step 3: Pick up random sections of hair and use a double barrel curling iron to curl the sections. Leave the ends straight. Spray lightly with dry shampoo (she used TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo, $5.49) for a matte finish.
Step 4: Create a middle part and separate out a two-inch wide section of hair (from your hairline back) that runs from your part to the nape of your neck. Secure all of your hair minus that two-inch section into a low ponytail.
Step 5: Take one side of the two inch section and pull it back toward your ponytail. Wrap it over the elastic to the opposite side of the ponytail and secure it under the tail. Repeat on the other side so the two small sections cross over each other.
Step 6: Leave a few face-framing strands loose, and tuck the hair loosely behind your ears for a casual finish.
