Nicole Richie is a style chameleon, which is why we totally love her. But of her ever-changing looks, this updo is definitely one of our favorites. Channeling Bridget Bardot, her teased ponytail-but-not-a-ponytail is as unique as it is elegant. Suave Professionals Stylist, Jenny Cho shares how to get Nicole’s red carpet look, so get out your backcombing brush and get styling.
Step 1: Spray a dry shampoo, like Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, $4.49 directly at the root, crown and front of your hair, then brush through your strands. This gives your hair some volume and texture, which is what makes this style work.
Step 2: Pick up the section of hair around your crown and sides and tease it to create more volume. Use a brush to smooth the hair on the sides and ends.
Step 3: Pull the remaining section of hair in the back of your head (the underneath section) into a ponytail, and secure with an elastic.
Step 4: Pick up one side section and wrap it around the base of the ponytail, securing with a bobby pin. Then take the opposite side and wrap it around the pony, securing with a bobby pin. Finally, take the teased crown section and lightly smooth and brush it back over the ponytail to hide the bobby pins.
Step 5: Work a dime-size amount of shine serum like Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smooth & Shine Serum, $4.49 into the palms of your hands, and delicately smooth over the ponytail strands to eliminate flyaways.
Now that you know how to get this look, will you try it?
