In my opinion Julianne Hough was one of the most stunning stars to walk the red carpet at this week’s People’s Choice Awards. This was actually surprising because she’s made a few worst-dressed lists during previous awards seasons. One of the reasons she looked so fabulous in that fabulous metallic, back-exposing dress (besides her insanely perfect body, of course) is that she chose a hairstyle that really balanced out her look. The full, bouncy waves perfectly complemented her sleek dress by making her whole appearance softer and sexier. A sleek hairstyle would have totally changed her vibe — making it more serious or simply chic, less fun. If you want to copy this hairstyle, follow these steps courtesy of stylist Vanessa Fernandez of the Butterfly Studio Salon in New York City:
Step 1: Start with clean, towel-dried hair.
Step 2: Apply volumizing mousse like Kerastase Mousse Substantive, $39 then blow dry your hair with a one-and-a-half-inch round brush to create a bouncy finish.
Step 3: Use a one-and-a-half or one-and-a-quarter-inch curling iron to curl one-inch vertical sections of hair. Curl them by rolling the iron away from your face.
Step 4: Once your hair is all curled, shake your hair out with your hands from underneath to create a sexy bounce.
Step 5: Finish with a medium-hold hairspray like Shu Uemura Art of Hair Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray, $38 to finish.
