Beauty Tips from Gwyneth Paltrow's Makeup Artist

If you, like me, subscribe to Gwyneth Paltrow’s newsletter Goop you probably saw yesterday’s post that featured her London makeup artist Emma Lovell and her step-by-step guide to doing your own makeup for day or night. (Don’t judge if you’re a hater, I’ve always been a fan of Gwyneth and will likely always be. Sliding Doors is one of my favorite movies of all time.)

Anyway, Lovell created a day and night look on a mom (Kate) from GP’s son’s school that she normally does on Gwyneth for appearances. I thought it was pretty helpful, so I’ve decided to share the most insightful (in my mind) tips from the post with you. Here it goes …

Tip 1: “Moisturize the entire neck, including the back; this keeps the front nice and taut!”

Tip 2: “When looking for the right foundation, try and match it to your neck rather than your face as you want your face color to blend seamlessly with the neck.”

Tip 3: When it comes to concealer, “… apply layers under the eyes, on the chin, in the t-zone and around the nose — in the winter, these are the places where people need the most coverage. As always, go slow, and don’t use it all up at once.” I personally never think about applying concealer to all of these areas, but I might just have to start.

Tip 4: With liquid liner, “Mix black and brown for a rich color.”

Tip 5: Because “Emma says there’s nothing worse than a dry-looking eye!” She “… dabs shimmery eye shadow on the center of Kate’s eyelid.”
