Answer: Moisture, moisture, moisture. Basically, you’ll want to give your strands a once-a-week treat with a deep conditioning product. Or, because you’re a new mom and might not have time to run out and grab a fancy deep conditioner, you can use this simple DIY recipe courtesy of Janice Cox author of Natural Beauty for All Seasons (and a few other fabulous DIY beauty books).
Hot Oil Treatment for Winter Hair
This what she calls it in her book, which makes this not only great for new moms, but for all of us who are feeling crunchy ends now that the weather is getting cooler.
What you need:
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup boiling distilled water
How to whip it up:
Pour the oil in the blender. Slowly add the boiling water. Blend on high until the oil has broken up into teeny droplets. Massage the mixture into your hair from roots to ends. Pop on a shower cap and wrap your head in a towel. Let the oil sit on your hair for about 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.
Why it’ll work:
“Olive oil increases your hair’s strength and flexibility. This is especially important if you use heated styling tools …” notes Cox in her book.
