Confession: I’m not a fan of Paris Hilton. But, when I stumbled upon this photo of her that was taken at the Dirty Dancing the Musical premiere, I immediately fell in love with her braided hairstyle. Chic, but fun and youthful at the same time. One side has a tight French braid, but the other side was left unbraided and showed off her sleek side-sweeping bangs. Both sides were then pulled back into a chignon. I’ll be wearing this look later today. Here’s how I’ll do it and how you too can copy it:
Step 1: Side part your hair from your forehead all the way down to the nape of your neck.
Step 2: Clip the hair opposite your part out of the way. This is the side that will be left unbraided.
Step 3: Move on to the hair on the same side of your part. Apply a bit of pomade or smoothing cream to your fingertips. Start French braiding your hair picking up small, quarter-inch sections as you go so that your braid remains fairly small. And, hold on to the sections firmly, you want the braid to be very tight. Once you reach the nape of your neck, secure hair just below the braid with a small, clear elastic.
Step 4: Unclip the other side of your hair, and pull it back and combine it with the hanging ponytail at the end of your braid. Secure into a low ponytail with an elastic.
Step 5: Twist and pin your ponytail into a bun and secure with bobby pins.
Step 6: If you have bangs, brush through them and sweep them to the side. Finish with hairspray to set your style.
