Hot For Pink: Makeup That Gives Back

Buying makeup can make you feel really good — especially when it supports a cause that’s close to your heart. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so check out some of our favorite beauty finds that donate a portion of the proceeds to fighting the good fight. So shop away.

Sephora Collection Breast Cancer Awareness Makeup Palette, $25

A $165 value, this limited edition palette has everything you ever need in a makeup palette — 36 shadows, 12 lipsticks, and 6 blushes — I mean, look at it, it’s major, right? Sephora is donating $2 from the sale of each palette to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

Bobbi Brown Pink Peony Set Illuminating Bronzing Powder & Mini Face Blender Brush, $45

This sheer illuminating powder has micro pearls to give skin a natural-looking glow. The mini face blender brush is perfect for use on your cheekbones. Bobbi Brown is donating $10 from the sale of each power set to BCRF.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Plumped Up Pink, $16

Clinique made it’s number one selling lip product — and my personal favorite every day tinted balm — in an exclusive pink shade just for breast cancer awareness. And the pink carrying case is ideal for storing all your other favorite glosses, balms and sticks. $3 from the sale of each of these limited-edition goodies goes to benefit BCRF.

Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Shape Of My Heart, $16

This sheer pink polish is a sweet sheer blush for your nails, so if you’re looking for an every day shade, this is it. Not only is it pretty, it’s also healthy for your nails: green tea extracts and protein-building Biotin along with other natural extracts strengthen nails and prevent ridges. Ten percent of each sale is donated to Hoag Breast Care Center in Southern California.

Sonia Kashuk Proudly Pink Five-Piece Purse Brush Set, $16

These pink-bristeled professional quality makeup brushes are the only brushes you’ll ever need. And with a Powder/Blusher Brush, Crease Brush, Synthetic Foundation/Concealer Brush, Small Eyeshadow Brush and Bent Eyeliner Brush, you’ll have everything you need for on-the-go touch-ups. Sonia Kashuk donates 15 percent of the purchase price to benefit BCRF.

How to Get the Look: The Cosmic Manicure Seen at Veda

If I were to predict a beauty trend that’ll come out of the Spring/Summer 2013 New York Fashion Week shows today (which is a bit early), it would be out-of-this-world-looking nail art. Earlier this week Carrie posted about the “Galaxy Glam” manicure seen at the Nicole Miller show and today I’m here to rave about the “Bespoke Cosmic Nail” seen at Veda. Katie Hughes, Global Colour Ambassador of Butter London, created this graphic, holographic manicure to complement the tie-dye pieces in the collection. Here’s how to copy it:

Step 1: Apply a base coat and two coats of olive nail polish on all but one of your fingernails. Try Butter London 3-Free Lacquer in Sloane Ranger, $14.

Step 2: Paint your remaining nail (the accent nail) with two coats of mauve nail polish. Try Butter London 3-Free Lacquer in Toff, $14.

Step 4: Top all of your nails with a glittery top coat that has very fine flecks of glitter. Try Butter London 3-Free Lacquer in Knackered, $14.

Step 5: Using black nail polish, paint a stripe down the middle of your nail starting a quarter of the way up your nail. Let your polish dry for a few minutes and finish with a top coat.

What do think? Will you try it?

Fun Fourth of July Manicure

Show your love for the US of A tomorrow by copying this manicure created by my crafty sister Sam:

Start by applying a base coat like Essie All In One Base, $9.50 and painting all but your ring fingers in two coats of a deep red hue topped with red glitter polish. Try Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Dragon, $26 and China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Ruby Pumps, $6.50.

Next, paint your ring fingernails with opaque white nail polish (try Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in White On, $2.82).

Use tweezers to place three adhesive rhinestone stars (pick these up at your local craft store like Michaels) in a diagonal line across your white nails. Secure them with a bit of nail glue (try Kiss Maximum Speed Nail Glue, $2.49) for long-lasting hold.

Finish the look by applying a clear top coat to all of your nails. Try China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat, $6.49.

Happy Fourth of July to you all!

Emma Stone’s Spiderman Press Tour: Which Look Do You Like Best?

This month Emma Stone has been killing it with both her hair and makeup while on a globetrotting press tour for The Amazing Spider Man (BTW, it opens July 3rd). I couldn’t wait to share my favorite looks. Dying to see what she comes up with next.

Which look do you like best?
